“The Age of Elegance: The Joan Taub Ades Collection” shows the personal collection of Joan Taub Ades, who, over the last decade, has acquired old master drawings of superb quality and character. According to William M. Griswold, director of The Morgan Library & Museum, the collection “reflects her passion for the old masters and her discerning eye.”

Among the highlights of the French school is Jean-Baptiste Greuze’s masterful “Head of a Sorrowful Woman”, arguably the loveliest work of the exhibition. There is also a “Reclining Nude with Outstretched Arm” by François Boucher, described in the press release as “lushly sensuous”.

“The Prophet Isaiah”, by Italian artist Guercino is not only one of the main stars of the Italian section, but also the earliest sheet in the exhibition. The small selection of Northern school works features some good examples of still life paintings, such as Jan van Huysum’s “Flowers in a Terra-Cotta Urn on a Marble Ledge”.
