First of them, the rumours about the possibility of that a “new Louvre” could be opened in Abu Dhabi have created very different opinions among the critics. Two of the most important French newspapers, the “Libération” and the “Le Figaro”, have echoed this controversy, and the first of them have revealed that this operation could bring a profit of 500 million euro to the French country.

Also, the “sensational” loan of a portrait by the Spanish master Diego de Velázquez belonging to the Louvre Museum has also caused a great controversy in the Art world, as many scholars have expressed their doubts about the authenticity of the painting. Didier Sélès, administrator of the French Museum , have published a note in the “Libération” defending the painting’s authenticity. Nevertheless, the discussion has not finished yet.
