October 8th 2007 – A pleasant and important work by French impressionist master Claude Monet has been damaged by a group of intruders -4 men and a woman- who entered the Orsay Museum early Sunday night through a backdoor

There were no signs that the group was armed, so it’s possible that the five persons were not thieves, just drunkards.

Painted in 1874, “Le pont d’Argenteuil” is one of Monet’s finest compositions from the 1870s, showing the Seine with a bridge and two boats. Experts said that the painting can be succesfully restored.
